b) Some sections of the policy might not be applicable to current services. However when such services do start, the corresponding sections automatically come into effect.

What This Privacy Policy Covers

  • This policy covers how Xcanopus treats personal information that Xcanopus collects and receives, including information related to your past use of Xcanopus products and services. Personal information is information about you that is personally identifiable like your name, address, email address, or phone number, and that is not otherwise publicly available.
  • This policy does not apply to the practices of companies that Xcanopus does not own or control, or to people that Xcanopus is not associated with / does not employ or manage.

Information Collection and Use

     General

  • Xcanopus collects personal information when you sign up with Xcanopus, when you use the guestbook, when you visit Xcanopus pages.
  • When you register we ask for information such as your name, email address, birth date and gender. Once you register with Xcanopus and sign in to our services, you are not anonymous to us.
  • Xcanopus automatically receives and records information on our server logs from your browser, including your IP address, Xcanopus cookie information, and the page you request.
  • Xcanopus uses information for the following general purposes: to customize the content you see, fulfill your requests for services, improve our services, contact you, conduct research, and provide anonymous reporting for internal and/or external clients.
  • The information we collect in connection with our online forums and communities is used to provide an interactive experience. We use this information to facilitate participation in these online forums and communities.
  • If you choose to submit content for publication (e.g., a "letter to our editors"), we may publish your screen name and other information you have provided to us.
  • We sometimes use the non-personally identifiable information that we collect to improve the design and content of our site and to enable us to personalize your Internet experience.
  • We also may use this information in the aggregate to analyze site usage, as well as offer services.
  • Registration is not required to enter our site.

  • Although we take appropriate measures to safeguard against unauthorized disclosures of information, we cannot assure you that personally identifiable information that we collect will never be disclosed in a manner that is inconsistent with this Privacy Policy.

    Children

  • To avoid complications in privacy, Xcanopus will *not* register any person below 18 years of age.

Information Sharing and Disclosure

  • Xcanopus does not rent, sell, or share personal information about you with other people or nonaffiliated companies except to provide services you've requested, when we have your permission, or under the following circumstances:
    • We respond to subpoenas, court orders, or legal process, or to establish or exercise our legal rights or defend against legal claims;
    • We believe it is necessary to share information in order to investigate, prevent, or take action regarding illegal activities, suspected fraud, situations involving potential threats to the physical safety of any person, violations of Xcanopus's terms of use, or as otherwise required by law.
    • We transfer information about you if Xcanopus is acquired by or merged with another company. In this event, Xcanopus will notify you on your email address (if provided) before information about you is transferred and becomes subject to a different privacy policy.
    • We publish a newsletter (ezine), and we never sell or share our subscribers' email addresses.
    • We operate online surveys, and we never sell or share our subscribers' email addresses.
  • Regarding email addresses listed in the guestbook, the email id and the domain are stored separately. We hope that this prevents email harvesters from recognising the addresses.
  • The email addresses collected from the guestbook are, however, not made public.

Cookies (Definition)

  • To enhance your experience with our sites, many of our web pages use "cookies."
  • Cookies are text files we place in your computer's browser to store your preferences. Cookies, by themselves, do not tell us your email address or other personally identifiable information unless you choose to provide this information to us by, for example, registering at our site. However, once you choose to furnish the site with personally identifiable information, this information may be linked to the data stored in the cookie.
  • We may set and access cookies on your computer to understand site usage and to improve the content and services on our site. For example, we may use cookies to personalize your experience at our web pages (e.g., to recognize you by name when you return to our site) and save your password in password-protected areas.

Your Ability to Edit and Delete Your Account Information and Preferences

  • We reserve the right to send you certain communications relating to the Xcanopus service, such as service announcements, administrative messages and the Xcanopus Newsletter, that are considered part of your Xcanopus account, without offering you the opportunity to opt-out of receiving them.
  • You can delete your Xcanopus account by visiting our Account Deletion (link to be added) page. Please click here (link to be added) to read about information that might possibly remain in our archived records after your account has been deleted.

Confidentiality and Security

  • We limit access to personal information about you to employees who we believe reasonably need to come into contact with that information to provide services to you or in order to do their jobs.
  • We use encryption to store account information and commercial data. However the general guestbook (http://www.xcanopus.net/guestbook.htm) will still be visible to the general public. We, however, withhold the date of birth, email address and gender from being displayed.

Conflict resolution

  • We are committed to resolving disputes within 24-48 hours. If problems arise, users may contact us by email or telephone at the contact info given at the end of this page.

Changes to this Privacy Policy

  • Xcanopus may update this policy. We will notify you about significant changes in the way we treat personal information by sending a notice to the email address specified in your Xcanopus account/guestbook and/or by placing a prominent notice on our site.
